Why Did You Become an Attorney? – Adam Dougherty

Video Description

I was in law enforcement, and I was working for the Arizona Department of Corrections. I was a parole officer after having been a corrections
officer. And so I started to have more and more interactions with county attorneys and public defenders. And this is in the early to mid-nineties and Law and Order was a popular television show at that time. So the combination of working hand in hand with some of these people and thought, if this person can be a lawyer,  I can do it. And so that really is what planted the seed. And so, at the same time  I was taking the LSAT, I was also in the hiring process for the Tempe Police Department. And so I had scored like 99% in Tempe. They wanted me to come back and do physical training on a certain Saturday. And I was like, yeah, I can’t make that day. And they said, why not? I said, well, I’m taking my LSAT, so I have to do this on another day. I got into several schools and decided to try it. Let’s see if it’s as hard as everybody says it is. In my very first law school exam, I got a book award, which is the highest grade in the class for torts of all things negligence. Imagine that. And so that’s what I’m doing to this day.
