What Is the Statute of Limitations for Wrongful Death Claims in Utah?

Video Description

The simple answer to that is two years. And the reason that it gets more complicated is because if you have, for instance, a government entity involved or you have a medical provider involved, there are statutory requirements that have to take place oftentimes well before the statute of limitations runs. So, to give an example, we may have to file a specific document or serve a specific document on a government entity before, you know well before, a year before for instance, we even file a lawsuit because there has to be a process after that. Similar with medical professionals and what gets even more complicated, is and you have, for instance a state hospital where you have both of those. So again, two years does not mean two years  in that situation. Always, I harp on this a lot, but the second you think you might have a case, get an attorney involved. They’re going to be the ones that are going to dig through the mud and and make sure that your case gets filed on time, including the statutory requirements.
